Vaccination records often become a collection of small stickers, handwritten dates and appointment reminders. It can be difficult to know what is due next. The most useful starting point is a single, accurate record and a conversation with your veterinarian about your pet’s age, health and daily life.
Why the plan is individual
Vaccines help protect pets against important infectious diseases. Some are recommended broadly, while others depend on exposure and local risks. Puppies and kittens usually need an initial series rather than one visit providing complete protection. Your veterinarian should set the schedule using the vaccine product, previous history and your pet’s circumstances.
Describe your pet’s real routine
Tell the veterinarian about boarding, grooming visits, contact with other animals, travel and outdoor access. A cat that lives indoors still needs a vaccination assessment. Do not assume that another pet’s schedule—or an old internet checklist—is the right plan for yours.
Make the record easy to use
- Keep photographs of each vaccination entry and store the original booklet safely.
- Record the vaccine name, date given and the next date advised by the clinic.
- Tell boarding or grooming providers about the current record before making arrangements.
- If a date is missed or a record is missing, contact the clinic for a catch-up plan.
Turn reminders into a household routine
Choose one person to keep the main record, then share the next appointment with anyone who transports your pet. Put a reminder a little before the due date so you have time to book. If you are travelling, ask about requirements early and bring the actual documents requested; a calendar note alone may not be enough.
Ask what to watch for afterwards
Before going home, ask about expected reactions and when to seek help. Facial swelling, breathing difficulty or collapse after vaccination require urgent veterinary attention. Let the veterinarian know about any previous reaction before the next appointment. Vaccines reduce risk, but they do not replace routine examinations or every other preventive measure.
Bring your vaccination booklet to SRM Pet Clinic so the next steps can be checked and written clearly. Contact the clinic or call +91 90360 07887.
